Guidelines and expectations
Large Group
Big Group is an opportunity for us to worship, pray and learn together. We meet each Friday evening at 7:00 pm and open by singing our praises to God. We then have a time for prayer, sobriety chips (a token of your hard work and dedication), and announcements. Following announcements, we have either a teaching on one of the 12 Steps or a testimony from someone who wants to share what their lives were like before recovery and how their lives have changed since being in recovery. We close in prayer and head to our small groups at 8:00 pm.
Small Group
Many would tell you that Small Group is where the healing takes place. For sure, tears are shed and burdens feel lighter. We currently have 2 Small Groups to choose from and we feel confident that one of them will meet you right where you are. Small group meets on Fridays from 8:00 pm to 9:00 pm.
Women's Open Group:
A women's only group covering a wide variety of issues such as (but not limited to) chemical dependency, physical and sexual abuse, obsessive-compulsive disorder, co-dependency, and relationship struggles.
Men's Open Group:
A men's only group dealing with a variety of issues such as (but not limited to) alcoholism, drug addiction, co-dependency, sexual addiction and relationship struggles.
5 Guidelines for Small Groups
The success of an open discussion (Small Group) is dependent upon certain guidelines. In our efforts to provide you with a safe, confidential place to share your experiences. strengths and hopes with others, we do require that certain guidelines be followed. We like to keep things simple, so here are the basics:
1. Keep your sharing focused on your own thoughts, feelings and actions. Focusing on yourself will benefit your recovery as well as the ones around you. Stick to "I" or "me" statements, not "you" or "we". Keep your sharing to 3-5 minutes so that everyone has an opportunity to share. Details of your recovery issue(s) should be discussed with your sponsor - accountability partner. If the leader gives you a sign to wrap it up please don't take it personally. It is not meant to be offensive and it happens to us all.
2. There is NO cross talk. Cross talk is when two people engage in a dialogue during the group meeting by making distracting comments, asking questions, responding to what another member has said, or speaking to another member while someone is sharing.
3. We are here to support one another not "fix". This keeps us focused on our own issues. We do not give advice, or solve a problem someone shared, or offer book referrals or counselor referrals without being asked for help.
4. Anonymity and confidentiality are basic requirements. Our motto: WHAT IS SHARED IN THE GROUP STAYS IN THE GROUP! This includes telling people at work, your spouse or significant other, or your friends and family outside of Celebrate Recovery, even if you think they will never meet. This is called GOSSIP! Even discussing another members sharing with another group member is strictly a no-no.
5. Offensive language has no place in a Christ-centered recovery group. Please watch your language.
