Purpose of the Sonshine Class and Curriculum:

The First Colony Church of Christ Sonshine Class program is designed for immunized infants through elementary age home school children.  It runs in conjunction with the Ladies’ Bible Studies classes in order to give mothers a time to renew their spirits and gain knowledge of the Bible.  Our goal is to provide a safe, fun and interactive environment for play and Biblical learning opportunities.  We use Promiseland’s “In The Beginning” curriculum for all age groups.

Nursery -- Infants and toddlers will enjoy cradle roll songs that teach about the Bible, baby Jesus, Creation, and Christian living while promoting fine motor development.

2-5 year olds--The Bible curriculum for these children will be thematic in nature.  All children will participate in a large group worship time, which includes singing and a story time from the Bible.   There will be an enrichment activity provided in each child’s class with a review of the lesson.  The boys and girls will also enjoy indoor and outdoor playtime.

Home school--Children in the home school class will have a Bible lesson and an enrichment activity in their classroom.  They will be expected to bring at least 60-75 minutes of schoolwork from home that they can complete independently.  If you would like an assignment corrected and reviewed with your child, you will need to provide the appropriate grading items for the teacher.  The remainder of the time will be used for an art activity, outside playtime and snack.

Accidents:

Minor accidents (cuts, scratches, bumps, etc.) occurring during class will receive prompt attention.  If an accident requiring medical attention occurs, we will immediately inform you.

Arrival:

Parents must escort their children to the computer check-in area and check in their children each week.  Teachers will be prepared to greet your child at 9:30 a.m.  Please do not bring children before 9:30 a.m. so that the teachers can fully prepare their classrooms and lessons for that day.

Class Divisions:

These class divisions are subject to change due to enrollment numbers.  You will be notified of your child’s class assignment, room number, and teacher names prior to the first day of class.

In order to facilitate quality care for your child, we must have the following before your child is admitted into the program:

  1. Completed enrollment, introduction, and medical information forms (one set per child)
  2. Registration is not official without payment of enrollment fee.
  3. Enrollment fee is $35 for the first child enrolled; $15 for each additional child

Illness:

It is our policy to accept only well children.  Please do not bring a child who is apparently ill (green runny nose, rash, fever, diarrhea, vomiting, etc).  A child must be fever-free for 24 hours before returning to class.  If your child becomes ill during class hours, you will be contacted to pick him/her up.

Pick-up:

The classes will close at 12:15 p.m. on regular days and 1:30 p.m. on Lunch Out days.  Please be prompt and have your child picked up before this time!  When picking up your child, please bring the computer printout claim ticket.  If someone other than you will be picking up your child, please be sure that the teacher knows and have the designated person turn in the claim ticket.

Supplies (Please mark your child's name clearly on all belongings):
Clothing-The children will be using paint, glue, etc. and playing outdoors.  Clothing should be comfortable, easy-to-launder play clothes that you would not mind getting dirty.  All children (except babies) must wear shoes at all times.  Children age two and under (and those who might have accidents) should bring a complete change of clothing.  If your child is in diapers, please bring an adequate supply of disposable diapers for the day.  Please send your child in clothes that are appropriate for that day's weather, for we will be using the playground if the weather permits.

Bag-Every child should bring for his/her belongings (such as an extra change of clothes). All belongings also needed to be labeled with your child’s name. This bag will be used for any artwork, papers, or notes from the teacher that need to be sent home, so check your child's bag after every class.

Snacks-Each family will be asked to bring a snack for the class at least once for each semester.  Some classes will be smaller, so some parents might have to provide snacks twice.  If this is a financial burden on your family, please talk to the Director.  We ask that you bring healthy snacks-no cookies, doughnuts, or cake.  Also, no peanut products will be served due to sensitive food allergies.

Lunch Out-Please provide a lunch and drink for your childDo not send any products containing peanuts due to sensitive food allergies.

Infants up to 12 months-Please provide everything needed for your baby (bottle, formula, food, spoon, pacifier, wipes, creams, change of clothes, etc.).  These items will not be accepted unless marked with your child’s name.

What we do not want your child to bring:

Toys-We cannot be responsible for lost or damaged toys.

Medications-We are not permitted to administer any type of medication.  This should be done before class, or you may leave your class to administer your child's medication.  The only exception is diaper rash ointment (you will be required to complete a permission form).

Visitors:

Visitors’ children are always welcome in Sonshine Class.  Visitors are not required to pay an enrollment fee unless they join a study; however, an enrollment form and medical information form must be completed and signed before the visitors’ children are left in Sonshine Class.

Volunteering:

If your child is participating in our program and you are a FCCC member, please sign up to substitute one Tuesday to provide support and extra hands for Sonshine Class. You will not be asked to teach or change diapers, but to be a warm, loving body to nurture children.  We will contact you the day prior to remind you that it is your day.  Please plan to arrive at 9:15 to be a part of our morning meeting and prayer time.

If your study ends before the semester ends and you would like to help out in Sonshine class, please let us know.  We would love to have you!
