Joel Smith grew up in a solid Christian home where he heard the Gospel at a very young age and responded; later as a senior in high school, he took the next step of baptism.
Joel is the product of public, private, and home-school education. He served in full-time children’s and family ministry for over 20 years. Along the way, he also enjoyed opportunities like co-hosting a parent talk radio show in Portland, teaching as an adjunct professor at Multnomah University, educating as an English teacher/missionary in Moscow, Russia, and writing curriculum for Character First Education.
Joel and his wife, Melinda, immensely enjoyed becoming Texans with their ten children, two birds, two turtles, two fish, one rabbit, and one lizard. When he is not chasing his children, he enjoys: Friday date nights, with his wonderful wife; cooking and grilling; scouring YouTube for object lessons; and, attending ministry training conferences.
Joel has served on the family ministry team here at First Colony for almost five years.
